Wow, I just realized that it has been quite some time since I've sent an update on what's been happening in our Life Science class. Here's the latest and greatest!
First of all, there will be a school-wide Renaissance reward day this Friday, March 23, 2018. Students who qualified for the reward (based on the last progress report) will participate in outdoor games activities (ie. Corn hole, Wiffle Ball, Kick Ball, etc.). Each student will also receive snow cones (yummy)! Students who qualified should plan on bringing their Renaissance I.D. cards on Friday (3/23/18).
We have just finished our 3rd Quarter...and are now beginning a new unit (Unit 5: Transfer of Energy) on the World's Biomes. A Biome is a group of ecosystems with similar climates and similar organisms. The students are about to start a RESEARCH project on Biomes. They will be responsible for researching and discovering the characteristics of each of the 6 land biomes and 2 major aquatic (water) biomes, and put together a Booklet containing their compiled research. It is similar to the project they did earlier in the year on the human body systems. The project will be due on March 30...before we start our Spring Break. Students will have plenty of time in class to work on their projects. There will be little to no time at home necessary to work on the booklets. Students will also be quizzing and testing over the Unit concepts throughout these next 9 school days.
When we return from Spring break, students will have one week before the Georgia Milestones test. This year, 7th grade students will only be tested in the subjects of Reading, Language Arts, and Math. I will utilize some of my Science classroom time to help students prepare for the reading and writing portion of the Georgia Milestones, and then after testing we will jump right into our final unit of the year (UNIT 6: Ecology). Students will learn about how organisms within ecosystems interact and coexist within their particular habitats, and how each of them plays a specified role (niche) within.
This year has been flying by so quickly...it's hard to believe we are already so close to the end.
Until the next update...Stay well!
