I trust everyone had a great Thanksgiving break...I had an opportunity to ask all the students about their break, and it sounds like many had a great time.
Prior to the Thanksgiving break, we finished up the Body Systems and the students had started learning about the 6 kingdoms of organisms...and we had finished with the first 4: Archaebacteria, Eubacteria, Protists, & Fungi. Between now and Christmas, we will be diving deep into the characteristics of the most complex of all living things...Plants & Animals. Students will learn about the structures and reproductive methods of plants...including the possibility of dissecting flowers to examine all of its structural components. Students will then learn about the characteristics all the different Classes of the Vertebrates and Invertebrates within the Animal Kingdom. If time permits, students will work in pairs to complete a poster project about one of the following Classes of animals: Fish, Reptiles, Amphibians, Birds, Mammals, Sponges, Cnidarians, Worms, Mollusks, Echinoderms, or Arthropods. It will be a huge undertaking, but I am hoping to finish up the study of the 6 Kingdoms before we break for the Christmas holiday.
When we return from the holiday break in January, we will begin Unit 3...which will be all about Genetics and Heredity. I really enjoy teaching that topic...and I hope the students will find it interesting.
I will continue to update the Picture Gallery on this website, so be sure to check back every once in a while to see what your kids are up to in Science.
Until the next update, STAY WELL!
